Bayside and Martin Luther King, Jr. Academy - Parent and Community Meetings
The Board of Trustees for Sausalito Marin City School District would like to hear your thoughts regarding a process for combining schools in our district. We want to work together to solve our challenges of budget, enrollment and academic program.
A Year of Giving Thanks
The tradition of seasonal giving that began so long ago is present in our school community all year. As echoed by many, we are more than fortunate to have one another. We are grateful and inspired by the dedication, commitment and the many small acts of kindness and caring we experience in our learning community. On a daily basis we cultivate safe, healthy, caring and inclusive environments for our students that foster respect and compassion.
Bayside Elementary School Test Scores Rise
BAYSIDE ELEMENTARY School in the Sausalito Marin City School District, which has long struggled to improve student achievement, is now ranked as a "high performing school," according to the most recent state scores.
But the much improved result comes as the district board looks at a plan to close the Sausalito school and merge it with Martin Luther King Jr. Academy school in Marin City.
Bayside saw a 54-point increase in the California Academic Performance Index score, achieving 804 this year. The API is a numeric index that ranges from a low of 200 to a high of 1,000.
SMCSD seeks to provide a comprehensive educational program and services for approximately 121 students K-8 at MLK. MLK currently educates 49 fifth through eighth graders. The District’s K-4 students (72) are educated at a separate school at Bayside Elementary in Sausalito. The District must combine its schools to more efficiently and effectively serve the student population. A K-8 program allows for curriculum articulation and alignment, strong professional learning communities, mentoring for students and partnering with local community-based agencies and organizations to provide integrated school community services to children and families.
