Sausalito Marin City School District Celebrates Student Achievement
The Board of Trustees in the Sausalito Marin City School District received presentations from school administrators in the district Thursday night that showed a marked increase in student achievement at Bayside Elementary School and steady growth at Martin Luther King Jr. Academy Middle School. Bayside Elementary School saw a 54 point increase in the California Academic Performance Index, to 804 ranking it as a high performing school. MLK Academy has grown 64 points in the past five years. The school board commended the staff for their focus on continuous improvement in programs, curriculum and instruction. A focus on cultural relevance, project-based learning, arts and language integration have rounded out the comprehensive educational program in the district. Community agencies and organizations are also collaborating with the district to provide other needed services for children and families including after school tutoring and recreational activities. Combined efforts are resulting in improvements in student achievement. The district is accepting inter-district transfers and its small community schools are becoming more diverse.
A Year of Giving Thanks
The tradition of seasonal giving that began so long ago is present in our school community all year. As echoed by many, we are more than fortunate to have one another. We are grateful and inspired by the dedication, commitment and the many small acts of kindness and caring we experience in our learning community. On a daily basis we cultivate safe, healthy, caring and inclusive environments for our students that foster respect and compassion.
