Equity has been the focus of my work as an educator. In the classroom, on school campuses, and district-wide my energy has always been concentrated on ensuring that every student receives the quality instruction and resources that he/she deserves. For my work in this area, I have been fortunate to receive recognition at the regional, state, and national level. I am on the Governor’s Select Committee for Expanding Student Success and our focus is on the provision of quality programs for all students beyond the standard school day. This spring, I was invited to participate in the “Champions for Change” conference at the White House which focused upon equity issues for students nation-wide.
I am anxious to meet all of you, and to learn the history and specific stories of this district. I value any input that you may have that leads us to better outcomes for all of our students. We need to work in a highly supportive and collaborative manner at all times to support the children of this district. I will be on school campuses at least two days each week, and am available for scheduled appointments any workday.
I understand that there are some concerns about equity and the provision of quality resources to every student in the district. I assure you that the Board and I understand that concern, and I will begin the work immediately of immersing myself in the structures, practices and needs analysis for our schools. Until all of our students are learning and performing at high levels, I will not be satisfied.
I look forward to meeting you and to working with you on behalf of our students. Please keep an eye out for me on the school campuses, as well as upcoming forums that I will hold for community discussions.
