Welcome!

With the upgrade and enhancement of our website, I also want to highlight the future of the district and the challenges and opportunities ahead of us. With our newly elected board trustees this past November, we continue with strong community leadership and involvement. Our board meetings, the second and fourth Thursdays of the month, are open to the public and we invite parents, students and residents to attend. Our past years have been active with physical changes to the district. A new facility for Martin Luther King Jr., Academy, on Phillips drive, a parent center on the campus with the Head Start program, a new multipurpose room at Bayside Elementary, and a recently completed access road for Willow Creek Academy are some of the major changes in the last couple of years. We look to the future, with plans for additional classroom space for WCA.
But enhancement and changes are not just physical. We have had a bountiful year through the generosity of our community partners. While schools across the country and county are cutting back on arts programs, the Sausalito Marin City school district is enhancing their curriculum through a partnership with the Marin Community Foundation and a five-year Arts Demonstration Grant. On the website main page, look at Arts, and see the latest creations from our students. The arts and a robust music program are core elements of this education experience.
The Marin Community Foundation also provided funds for a five year study for Pre-school to third grade Literacy program. The school district has established a Design Team which includes staff, elementary and head start teachers, community members, parents, social worker, individuals from partnering organizations. The goal is to introduce the love of reading to young children. Interesting books, with repetitive words and phrases, enchanting characters and colorful illustrations are available to all the children in class, as well as for home use. Children will learn to read, love reading, finally reading to learn.
We continue to appreciate the Rotary Club of Sausalito for their support of our students. It was a special treat this fall to host them for lunch at Martin Luther King Jr., Academy. Awards, scholarships, and gifts of dictionaries enhance our students’ academic success. We welcome visitors to our campus any school day. Registration at each office is requested.
Peruse this website, enjoy the resources, information and photos of campus life. We encourage the parents and community to be involved. It does take a village to raise a child, and role models and mentors are integral to a students’ success.
